Seven Sweethearts in Need of Saving!

Hi again, everyone!  There are a few new pups available in our area - let's meet them!

Miami County Dogs
(if you're interested in adopting any of these dogs, please call the Miami County Animal Shelter at 937-332-6919!)

First up is Nellie!  She's a Schipperke who was brought in as a stray and will be available for adoption on 9/1/11.  She's an older gal who appears to have been spayed, and is mild-mannered.  She's got plenty of love to share!
Next up is Allie!  She's a 3-year-old Chocolate Lab who was brought in as a stray & will be available for adoption on 9/1/11.  She is very friendly, sweet, and mild-mannered!

Meet Dallas!  He's a 4 or 5-year-old Lab mix who was brought in as a stray and will be available for adoption on 9/1/11.  He is already neutered, and the shelter staff says he seems very outgoing and friendly!

This little sweetheart is Oscar!  He's a Shih Tzu.  There is no other information on his profile, but if you call the shelter I'm sure they'd be glad to answer your questions about him!

Next up is Comet!  He's a Jack Russell Terrier and he also has no information in his profile - if this little sweetheart has stolen your heart, call the shelter for more information!

Shelby County Dogs
(if you're interested in adopting any of these dogs, please call the Shelby County Animal Shelter at 937-498-7201!)

Would you check out the smile on this little guy!?  This is Tater, and he's a Chihuahua.  His profile doesn't have any more information, but I know the shelter staff would be happy to answer your questions - just give them a call!

Last, but most certainly not least, is Missy!  She's a 6-month-old Beagle/Australian Cattle Dog mix who was turned into the shelter by her owners.  They were older & just couldn't keep up with her - Missy has a lot of energy!  She's still a pup - she just needs some obedience training!

Sunday's Sweethearts!

Hello again, faithful readers!  Thanks for stopping by to check out the latest shelter pups available for adoption!  There are some really great dogs today - let's jump right in and meet them!

Darke County Dogs
(if you're interested in adopting any of these dogs, please contact the Darke County Animal Shelter at 937-547-1645!)

Meet Ranger!  He's a 4-year-old Australian Cattle Dog/Husky mix.  He has a Husky face and is a super-friendly guy!  He'll make someone a great walking partner & awesome companion!

Next up is Tucker!  He's a 1-year-old Lab mix who is very friendly.  He just needs a good home!

I won't lie - I actually "awww"ed out loud when I saw this little sweetheart's picture!  This is Abby, a 7-month-old Lab mix.  The shelter staff says she's an absolute sweetheart & she loves people - she's just waiting for her new best friend to come find her!  She'll be available for adoption on September 1st!

Meet Wendy!  She's a 3-year-old Black Lab mix who is very friendly and loves to play!  She will make a super companion and lifelong friend.  (On a side note, I can't help but notice the large number of black dogs up for adoption at DCAS - statistically speaking, they're usually the last to be adopted, through no fault of their own.  Give one of these sweethearts a chance today - they'll thank you for the rest of their lives!)

This little guy is Sparky!  He's a 3-year-old Pug mix who only weighs ten pounds!  He will make a great housedog & is looking for a good home!
Miami County Dogs
(if you're interested in adopting any of these dogs, please call the Miami County Animal Shelter at 937-332-6919!)

Meet Lilly!  She's a 9-month-old Australian Cattle Dog who was released to the shelter by her owners because they could no longer care for her.  The shelter staff says she is very mild-mannered and well-behaved.  She's already spayed, and is a little small for her breed.

Next up is Peanut!  He's a 2-year-old Chihuahua who was brought in as a stray.  He will be available for adoption on 8/29/11.  He's a little shy & nervous, which is typical for his breed.  He'd probably do best in an adult home!

This handsome fellow is Dundee!  He's a 1 or 2-year-old Doberman mix who was brought in as a stray.  He is a friendly & pretty mellow big guy - he'll be available for adoption on 8/31/11!

Meet Olivia!  She's a 1-year-old German Shorthaired Pointer.  She was brought in as a stray and not reclaimed.  She is a sweet girl & is FULL of energy!

Next up is Lucy!  She's a 4 or 5-year-old Greyhound/Retriever mix who was found running as a stray with Ethel.  (You'll meet her shortly!)  She is a very sweet, mellow, and easygoing big girl!  She'll be available for adoption on 8/31/11.

Here's Ethel!  She's a 4-year-old Retriever/Hound mix who was found running loose with Lucy.  She's a mild-mannered, quiet and gentle girl, and she'll be ready for adoption on 8/31/11!

ADORABLE PUPPY ALERT!  These four fabulous females are 6-week-old Jack Russell mixes who were released to the shelter by their owner.  Their mother is a Jack Russell Terrier and the owner stated the father was a Shepherd, but the shelter staff isn't quite so sure since that seems like an unlikely mix!  They are sweet, cuddly babies - so if you're looking to add a puppy to your family, don't hit the pet store, save one of these sweethearts!

Meet Poppy!  She's a 1-year-old Labrador Retriever/Hound mix who was found running as a stray.  She's a very friendly and good-natured girl!

This gorgeous gal is Rosie!  She's a 4-year-old Labrador Retriever/Poodle mix - that's right, a Labradoodle!  She was picked up as a stray and appears to have been on her own for a while, as she is very thin.  She was initially withdrawn but now that she's realized the shelter staff are her friends, she's come out of her shell & gotten comfortable!  She is very sweet and mild-mannered, and she'll be available for adoption on 8/29/11!

Last but not least is Otis, a sweet Shih Tzu who DESPERATELY needs someone to come rescue him!  He was found as a stray - he was hit by a car and has a broken leg.  The shelter staff is hoping his owner will come into reclaim him, but if no one does, he will be available for adoption on 8/31/11.  He is very, very sweet, even though he doesn't feel well!  If you know anyone missing a Shih Tzu, have them call MCAS to see if Otis is their pup!  Or if you know anyone who'd like to be Otis's guardian angel, have them contact the MCAS about adopting him!

Feline Friday: Meet Margaret!

Meet Margaret, Miami Valley Dog Blog's very first "honorary dog!"  Margaret is being cared for by two of my friends, and they asked me to feature her here so she'd have a better chance at finding a good home!

Here's Margaret's story, as told by Tara: "This adorably sweet, I mean SUPER sweet little kitty cat, I have named Margaret needs a forever home and fast!!   She will make anyone who loves cats a wonderful lifelong friend!  Her faves include purring and being petted :) She has been abandoned and was skin and bones, before I started feeding her.  She is a female orange tabby, ALREADY spayed and front declawed! Yes, whoever abandoned her left her defenseless outside :(  I'm currently treating her for a nasty abscess as something got a hold of her outside and she can't defend herself.  As you know, I am a Registered Vet Tech, I have taken her to the vet and she is Feline Leukemia/FIV NEGATIVE! She is believed to be approximately 5 years old and weighs in at 6.5 lbs, she is very petite and sweet! I have performed a dental on her and she is up to date on her vaccinations as well as anything deemed necessary. PPPPPLEASE, SHARE THIS LINK WITH YOUR FRIENDS!!  Interested/Serious animal lovers can reach me anytime at tfisher@tippvet.com. Thank you for helping me find her a loving, forever family! The unconditional love and acceptance that our pets give us always leaves me speechless and my heart happy."

If you're interested in giving Margaret a home, you can contact Tara at the e-mail address given above, or you can call my friend Julie at (937) 418-3135 - she's helping take care of this sweet cat, too!

If you can't give Margaret a home, please share this link with all your cat-loving friends!  The more people who see this, the better chance Margaret has of finding a safe forever home!

This adorable sweetheart is Ziggy!  He's an 8-year-old Chihuahua who only weighs 10 pounds and would make a great housedog!  The shelter staff says he's a sweet little guy.

Meet Otis!  He's a 4-year-old German Shorthaired Pointer.  He's a friendly young guy who loves to play!

This handsome fellow is Dodger!  He's a 5-year-old Black Lab who weighs around 70 pounds.  He's a wonderful dog and is very loving - he just needs someone to call his own!

Check out the smile on Teddy!  He's a 2-year-old Yellow Lab mix who is neutered and current on all his shots.  He's good with kids and is housebroken - he'd make a great family pet!

Meet Cody!  He's a 6-year-old Yellow Lab mix who is a real "people dog!"  He's very friendly and will make a wonderful companion!

Miami County Dogs
(if you're interested in adopting any of these dogs, call the Miami County Animal Shelter at 937-332-6919!)

Meet Darla!  She's a 1-year-old Border Collie mix who was found as a stray and wasn't reclaimed.  She is a sweet and friendly girl!

This little sweetheart is Froggy!  He's a 3-year-old Chihuahua mix who was brought in as a stray.  He's a little shy, which is typical for his breed, but once he warms up to you he's a sweetie!

Next up is Duffy!  He's a 1-year-old Shepherd mix who was brought in as a stray.  He is very sweet and mild-mannered, and he knows some basic commands!

Meet Pokey!  He's a 4-year-old Shih Tzu who is a very gentle and friendly little guy!  The shelter staff has contacted a local groomer to get Pokey a much-needed haircut and will be posting updated pictures once he gets his makeover!

This smiling sweetheart is Hurley!  He's a 2 or 3-year-old Black Lab mix who was brought in as a stray.  He is a friendly and mild mannered big boy!

Meet Dolly!  She is a 1-year-old Dalmatian who was picked up as a stray.  She is very bouncy and energetic, and she loves to play!

This gorgeous gal is Bella!  She's a 1-year-old Black Lab who was turned in by her owner because they no longer had time for her.  She is spayed and is current on her vaccines, and is good with children and other dogs.

Meet Filo!  He's a 1 or 2-year-old Pekinese who was picked up as a stray.  He is a friendly and good-natured little guy!

This is Petie!  He's a 10-month-old Terrier who was brought in as a stray.  He's a little shy, but once he comes around he's a really sweet guy!

Next up is Yukon!  He's a 2-year-old Black Lab who was brought in as a stray and will be available for adoption on 8/20/11.  He's a very sweet, excitable big boy!  He's so happy & he wants you to know it, so he can't stand still!

Meet Shelby!  She's a 1-year-old Shepherd mix who was adopted about a week ago and returned because her new owners said she was too much to handle.  The shelter staff says she seems like a really good dog, she just needs some basic training.  She's very sweet and eager to please!

This little guy is Marley!  He's a 1-year-old Cockapoo who was brought in as a stray and will be available for adoption on 8/20/11.  The shelter staff says he's friendly & mild-mannered!

Meet Titan!  He's a 3-month-old Lab mix puppy who will be a BIG boy when he grows up!  He's very playful and loveable!

Next up is Dakota, a 10-month-old Boxer.  His owners turned him over to MCAS because the other dog in their family wouldn't accept him.  He's already neutered and is housebroken, and is a sweet dog!

This sweet girl is Hazel, a 10 or 12-year-old poodle.  While she is older, she's not terribly old for a poodle - they can live to be 20-years-old!  (My first dog was a poodle who lived to be 18!)  Hazel was brought in as a stray and has claimed an office chair and made herself the shelter's unofficial greeter!  She is very friendly and loveable, and greets everyone who comes through the shelter's doors.  She would make a great housedog for someone who isn't up for a puppy!

Meet Joker!  He's a 2-year-old Border Collie mix who was brought in as a stray.  He is very vocal and energetic, and loves to play with anyone who is up for it!

Meet Romeo (top) and Juliet (bottom)!  They are two Dachshunds who were picked up running loose.  These dogs are both in rough shape and may have been running for a while. They are both very thin, and have some skin issues. And the male, Romeo, may have been hit by a car. Romeo is about 2-3 yrs old. Juliet is about 4-5 yrs old. Despite the problems these two babies have they are still happy, friendly dogs. Hopefully they will each find the forever homes they deserve!

Meet Max (top) and Erma (bottom)!  They are two Siberian Huskies who were picked up running loose.  . Max is and older boy and has already been neutered. Erma is about 3 yrs old. They are both a little bit shy, but still sweet!

Shelby County Dogs
(if you're interested in adopting any of these dogs, call the Shelby County Animal Shelter at 937-498-7201!)

Meet Random!  He's a Border Collie mix who was dumped at the shelter because his owners didn't know how to treat his fleas, and he lost the hair at the base of his tail.  It's an easily treated & preventable problem, and a good boy like Random deserves a great home, not being abandoned!  The shelter staff says he seems to be good with other dogs.

This is Buckeye - he's a Beabull!  That's a breed of "designer dog" created by backyard breeders - a mix of Beagle and English Bulldog.  He's only about a year old, is used to being kept in the house, and has been around small children.  His previous owner had to give him to the shelter because they had health problems.
Meet Rabbitt!  He is neutered and seems to have been a housepet.  He has a sweet manner and prefers to be around you - he's not hyper at all!

This is Kyran - he's a Spaniel mix whose profile doesn't have any additional info yet - call the shelter and they will be glad to answer any questions you might have!

This little guy is Rampage!  He's a Jack Russell Terrier who was found running loose.  The person who found him said he was potty trained while at their house, and he is a good dog!

This is Bailey!  She's a Lab Mix who was found running around with Rampage, the Jack Russell Terrier.  The two of them get along well, and Bailey was also reported to be housetrained!

This gorgeous gal is Gemma, a Shepherd/Rottweiler mix who was found as a stray.  She is a wonderful and well-behaved dog who seems to be housetrained and keeps a very clean kennel!

Last but not least, meet Mikka!  She's a Rottweiler whose previous owners obviously didn't care for her properly.  She's got a skin condition - possible flea allergy or yeast problem, but both are very treatable conditions!  She just needs someone with compassion to adopt her and take good care of her!  She is well behaved and gets along with other dogs!
